Stephanie Chok and Heidilee Mohamad proudly embark on a mission to break the Malaysia Book of Records — Record for Longest Distance Cycling by Duo.
The attempt was endorsed by the Malaysia Book of Records and fully supported by Universal Fitness and Leisure Sdn. Bhd., a major sponsor of the endeavour.
Stephanie Chok (Stef) and Heidilee Mohamad (Dino), both with Malaysia Triathlete of the Year achievements in 2006 and 2007 respectively, hope to create awareness to safeguard the environment and reduce pollution while encouraging people to respect and preserve Mother Nature through this record-breaking attempt.
The ceremony was officiated by UFL Managing Director, Dato' Radha Krishnan while supporters and well-wishers looked on. "We are proud to flag off at our very own Wisma UFL," he said. "This attempt reflects all that we stand for here at UFL, striving for excellence in the arena of outdoor sports and the promotion of cultivating environmentally conscious Malaysians" he added.
The challenge will cover the entire Peninsular Malaysia, Sarawak, Brunei and Sabah. Flagging off from Wisma UFL, Kuala Lumpur, the record-breaking attempt will commence on the 3rd of January 2011 and end in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah on the 31st of January 2011.
The duo hopes to break the existing record of 4,547 km by 910 km, a 20% increase in distance. "The minimum distance we are hoping to achieve is 5,457 km in the 29 days of this expedition," said Stephanie Chok, who has taken on the role of stoker.
"All daily updates will be available for public viewing via Facebook, and in seeing our pictures and reading our short stories, we hope that all Malaysian's will soon take to bicycle riding as a lifestyle activity and existing bicycle enthusiasts will be encouraged to wear proper attire and protection gear while cycling," added Heidilee Mohamad, who took on the role of steer.
The record-breaking expedition will also visit each capital city and three islands; Penang, Langkawi and Labuan respectively.
